2013 OLLI Cycling Interest Group
General Information: The regular rides will be about 15-30 miles round trip. We ride between 12 -15 miles per
hour. We will stop about every 5 miles for a break and hydration. On the longer trips, we will stop for a lunch break.
Rides will start out shorter and get longer as the season progresses. Therefore, it is wise to start early in the season as the rides do get more challenging. A signed Consent and Release form with an emergency contact is required.
Helmets: For your own personal safety, it is STRONGLY recommended that you WEAR a cycling helmet! Over the past few years, we have had some spills, where the helmet prevented a head injury. When you ride without a helmet, you put yourself at risk!
Ride Time: Rides will start promptly at the designated start time. Rides in April, May, October and November will start at 10:00 AM. Rides in June, July, August and September will start at 9:30 AM.
Ride Day: The ride day will switch between Mondays and Tuesdays. Please see the specific ride dates on the schedule tab.
Ride Location: You will notice that the schedule does not tell you where we will be riding. The location of the ride will be sent out on an e-mail broadcast. We will rotate the regular ride starting locations between Midland, Bay and Saginaw counties. If you do not have e-mail, then find yourself a cycling buddy to contact. You can find their phone numbers and addresses in your OLLI membership directory. Remember, you can always contact Linda Ackerman 989-781-2961, Karol Walker 989-689-0282, or Marilyn Jones at 989-684-7567 for information.
Cancellation Policy: Refer to TV5 for weather information. If the predicted high temperature of the day is below 45 degrees, if there is a wind advisory or if it is raining, the ride will be cancelled. NOTE: If it is raining, but it appears that weather will be clear by start time, we will ride. However, if rain is predicted at start time, we will most likely cancel. Your co-leaders will make every effort to get an e-mail with the ride status out to you by 8:30 AM.
Recreational Cycling Leaders: Ruth Skeebo and Vicki Shrope
If you prefer to ride at a slower speed and shorter distance, then this group maybe for you! The Recreational Group rides at a speed of no more than 10 miles per hour and an approximate distance of 10 miles. Contact the OLLI office to be added to the group
